George Elliott is a Bluff Park, Alabama-based photographer whose other careers have included being a public relations executive with BellSouth and the Executive Director of the Nonprofit Resource Center of Alabama.
" Photography is a journey of people, places and things…all captured in one special moment by the photographer’s lens. It’s actually a journey of stories, and, just like a writer,always has a pen and notepad with him, my camera goes wherever I do."
"Water has always called to me. Somewhere, deep inside me, the rhythms and sounds of waves, lakes and streams sing special songs for me. Also, I've always been enchanted by the ocean and the ambiance of small coastal towns.
"Vibrant colors are also a mainstay in my photographs. Newspaper photographers taught me much about composition and colors.. They also taught me to see the possibility of photographs where others might not...they developed my photographic eye, so to speak".
Elliott and his wife have three daughters , one of whom is in heaven. They have five grandchildren and four great grandchildren .
"Amelia died in 1995 at the age of seventeen. Often, I find myself taking photographs for her because she did not have the chance to see all of God's beauty that she should have. I share them because I know that she would want you to see all the beauty around us each day, and that she would tell you to take it all in."
Elliott and his wife, Jerrie, are co-founders of The Amelia Center, a grief assistance center for parents who have lost children and children who have lost siblings. It is a community outreach department of Children's Of Alabama. Now over twenty-five years old, the Center has brought renewed hope to over 20,000 individuals.
